Packaging Tape Provides a Fast,
Easy Way to Seal Cartons

Packaging Tape

When you need to get your carton sealed efficiently, packaging tape provides the answer. You can choose from natural rubber, acrylic and hot melt variations. While each does the job, they each perform a little differently.

Natural rubber tape gives a consistent, reliable box closure. It has the most aggressive adhesive of any pressure sensitive tape and because it quickly penetrates and grips the corrugated, there is no need to spend much time rubbing on the tape to form a seal.

Acrylic tape is best suited for long term storage and has excellent clarity. This tape won't yellow over time. This tape has a consistent and smooth release…and grips well to recycled corrugated.

Hot melt is pressure sensitive polypropylene tape and is best suited for repetitive, volume packaging. It works well on over-stuffed cartons and has extra elongation…which helps in sealing irregular shaped items.

Rolls per Case
These tapes are usually sold in cases as follows:

TapeRolls/Case
3"24
2"36

The amount of tape per roll is typically 55 yards/roll or 110 yards/roll…but can be up to 1000 yards/roll. The amount of tape per roll determines the case quantities.

Application Method
For Packaging Tape the tool of choice is the hand held dispenser…these are inexpensive and make application very easy.

Temperature Ranges
Tape sticks best when applied at the right temperature. Manufacturers recommend the following room temperatures:

TapeTemperature Range
Natural Rubber0° to 150° F
Acrylic 32° to 140° F
Hot Melt 45° to 110° F

Available Colors and Thickness
These tapes typically come in clear and tan colors…and are also available in several colors like red, blue, green, etc. Colors are great for color coding products and shipments.

When it comes to tape strength the thicker the tape the stronger the tape. Tape thickness is measured in mils…the higher the mil measurement the stronger the tape.

Buyer Beware
When comparing the cost of tape make sure to compare apples to apples. Look at the:

• yards/roll (i.e. 55 yds/roll vs. 110 yds/roll)
• rolls per case
• thickness (mils)
